What is their policy on ensuring best quality product?
It is not unusual for an LTI taxi to clock up more than one million miles in their average lifespan of ten years. This may sound a lot, but it's important to bear in mind that taxis are often used continuously, often by two or more drivers. The vehicles are built virtually by hand, taking two weeks to manufacture. This makes them extremely durable. It also makes them very expensive. A new London cab costs around £26,000. But there are compensations to this relatively high front-end cost. Most importantly, LTI taxis retain their value over many years. The depreciation on a black cab is far lower than on a van or people carrier.
As a result of the emphasis on hand-built craftsmanship, LTI are able to offer three year or 100 000 mile warranties, five year mechanical breakdown insurance and six year anti-corrosion cover.
