What is their field of operation?

Spextacular operates within the optical goods market. Although the business is run from Exeter in the south west of England, as an online retailer, in theory at least, they serve a global market place. However, the nature of the product, prescription glasses, means that initially they will offer their products and service within the UK only.

The selling of prescription glasses online is a very recent development because traditionally, people have bought their glasses from the optician where they have their eyes tested. This model of buying is more like that seen in France where people get their eyes tested at the optician and then buy their glasses from wherever they choose.

From December 2006, Spextacular also offer a range of magnifiers. They did this in response to customer enquiries and requests. Although people may have spectacles, some find they need additional magnification for reading maps or telephone directories or for craftwork. Chris is constantly monitoring sales of individual goods to see which ones she should continue to sell and which should be discontinued.
