Wanna Argument?

Falling out of love with football?

Taking 'ownership' of clubs to another level

What happens when it all goes wrong? The plans your club had for a glittering future all go wrong, debts mount and eventually the business falls into administration. Then the supporters will sometimes form an alliance and try to rescue the club themselves. In some cases this will be a temporary thing and the club will eventually be bought by new owners; but for some clubs, ownership and control stays with the fans for longer. Brighton and Hove Albion FC, Bournemouth AFC, York City FC, Lincoln City FC and Chesterfield FC have all been rescued by fan-based groups. Supporters' Trusts continue to run Bournemouth and Northampton Town FC.

For these clubs, the commercial structure of the business has been ditched, to be replaced by one which sees democratisation, supporter involvement and sensible long-term financial management of the club. This must be the way forward for an increasing number of clubs, especially as the chance to 'buy' success through TV revenues disappears.
