Party Political Funding: Paying the Politicians at Poll Time
Does sleaze happen in other countries' political systems?
You'd better believe it. State funding is the norm in several European countries. But scandals occur in other countries than just the UK, as in Germany in 2000, when undeclared donations were made to the (then) governing Christian Democratic Union (CDU). This proved to be the end of former chancellor Helmut Kohl's 16-year rule of Germany.
