Wanna Argument? The EuroWho is more taxing - UK or Europe? The process of joining the Euro has nothing to do with tax harmonisation. Policies about tax harmonisation have been in place since the 1980s. The creation of a "single market" in 1993 implied trying to create more consistent levels of taxation so that goods, services and people could flow more freely around the European Union. This harmonisation has been a positive benefit to our trade as trade with Europe has grown significantly. If we are a part of the Euro then we will be in a much better position to influence how European tax powers are used and ensure that the process is a positive one that helps trade flows, but doesn't adversely affect our fiscal sovereignty. |
