Wanna Argument?
Why is it so much more expensive for young drivers to use their cars at night under pay-as-you-drive schemes?
The higher insurance tariff at night reflects the far greater risk of death or serious injury in car accidents between these hours. A report on young drivers produced by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in 2006, shows why.
- In 2005, almost 1,200 young drivers were killed or seriously injured on UK roads - more than 3 every day.
- Almost a quarter of all passengers who were seriously injured in a car accident were travelling with a young driver at the time.
- The main hazard is inexperience, especially when driving at night, negotiating bends, driving at speed or on wet roads.
