Wanna Argument?
Is it really more dangerous for young drivers than older ones on UK roads?
Analysis of data from the Department of Transport (DoT), the ABI, the Automobile Association (AA) and the Transport Research Laboratory lends weight to the argument:
- Young drivers double their risk of death or serious injury by driving at night.
- Compared to older drivers, young drivers have approximately twice as many of their accidents while taking a bend.
- Young drivers travel on average 11% faster than older drivers.
- For every 1% increase in speed, the likelihood of being involved in an accident rises by 8%.
- Approximately 40% of accidents involving young drivers and resulting in death or serious injury, occur when the road surface is wet.
