Wanna Argument?

How does pay-as-you-go work for older drivers?

We've already seen that 18-23 years olds pay for peak time travel between 11 pm and 6 am For drivers over the age of 24, peak time applies between 12pm and 5am and 7 am to 10 am

Pay-as-you-go is more personalised for older drivers. So, there are four different peak time tariffs, covering driving on:

  • Motorways
  • Dual carriageways
  • Single lane roads with 50-60 mph limits
  • Roads with 20, 30 or 40 mph limits

So analysts reckon that the driver groups who stand to benefit most from these types of schemes are:

  • Drivers over the age of 24, who use their cars for less than 8,000 miles per year
  • New drivers who would expect to pay very high insurance premiums under standard policies
