Challenge the Chancellor Competition

A2/AS/Applied Business Students - Handy Hints and Sources

Newspapers, Journals and Magazines

The quality newspapers are a valuable source of help, e.g. the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Independent, the Telegraph. Following the Chancellor's Pre-Budget Statement (December 2007) there will be articles and features in these papers. The Pre-Budget Statement often contains more tax policy issues than the Budget itself. You can also find more in-depth coverage via the Treasury Web site. There is a link to the Pre-Budget Statement on the home page. In the run-up to the Budget itself you will find plenty of articles in newspapers and on the Web.

The Business School at Bournemouth University

Email one of our tax lecturers for advice on how to tackle the project:

The Business School runs the LLB (Hons) Law and Taxation, the BA (Hons) Accounting and Taxation and BA (Hons) Business Studies and Taxation degree courses. We set up these degree course in response to the growing demand from the legal and accounting professions for highly paid graduates with a good grounding in taxation, legal and accounting issues. We don't try to teach students how to fill in tax returns but we do see that students learn why we have to have taxes, how this country's tax system works and we consider ways in which it could be improved.

The degrees also give students important exemptions from professional examinations affording them a head start in a career in law, tax consultancy or accountancy. If you want to know more about us, have a look at the Bournemouth University Web site or have a look at the Law and Taxation or Accounting and Taxation degrees. Also, the TaxTalking site has career information for students of all abilities.
