08 December 1997 - International [Switzerland]
Swiss Bank Corporation and Union Bank of Switzerland announce plans to merge. The new company is to be called United Bank of Switzerland and will become the world's second largest commercial bank by asset value after the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
