23 October 1997 - International [Equity Prices] Turmoil in the Hong Kong equity market led to widespread falls in equity prices world-wide: in the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 2.3%; in Asia, the Philippine and Singapore markets fall by almost 5% and the Nikkei 225 average in Japan lost 3%; prices in leading markets in Europe decline by more than 3%; in Latin America, the Bovespa index in Brazil fell just over 8% and equity prices in Mexico and Argentina drop almost 5%.
