In the News Monthly Quiz

Welcome to this new resource, which will be featured towards the end of each month on Biz/ed. The resource is designed to encourage students to keep abreast of topical news items related to business and economics. Each weekday, Biz/ed presents a short article based around a topical news story. One of these stories is selected each week and is presented as a podcast, accompanied by a series of interactive questions.

An important aspect of studying economics and business subjects is to be aware of current events and to be able to apply business and economics concepts and methods to them in order to analyse and evaluate the issues arising.

At the end of each month, Biz/ed will publish 20 questions linked to some or all of the articles that have appeared on In the News during that month. To find the answers, students must either read the ITNs daily or go back and search through the archives in order to do so.

The archive is divided into two sections, one based on stories with a mainly UK focus, with the other centred on global issues. To search the archive for the quiz, students should go to the In the News search page and select either 'Browse UK archive by quarter' or 'Browse international archive by quarter'. Once you have been moved to these pages, please select the most recent quarter. This will give you access to all the news stories from the previous month.

These questions can be used as a regular bit of fun to give students something to do for homework, or to introduce a competitive element into the classroom.
