• Understand the background to the creation of the Channel Tunnel
• Analyse the impact and cause of three fires in the tunnel since its construction
• Understand how passengers can escape from danger in the tunnel
• Understand the alternative transport routes open to freight and passenger traffic
• Analyse the financial impact on Eurotunnel and Eurostar
• Evaluate the impact of safety regulations affecting Eurostar and its ability to cut costs
• Research from a range of sources of further information
• Evaluate the tunnel versus ferry travel experience
