Products and Services for Consumers and Industry - ActivityMake sure you have worked your way through the Presentation first, to get information on the different products and services offered to industry and consumers by public and private sector organisations. Now make your way through these tasks:
Task 1Regional Tourist Boards provide marketing and other forms of support for tourism businesses within all parts of the UK. Go to Visit Scotland's Web site(http://www.visitscotland.com) to find out the ways that this Tourist Board is promoting travel and tourism businesses north of the border. Take a look at the south west RDA's Web pages on transport(http://www.southwestrda.org.uk/region/transport.shtm). Find out which airport provides the region's greatest quantity of freight. Task 3Industry groups exist to provide advice and support to businesses. In travel and tourism there are several key organisations. One that you might not have heard of before is the British Holiday and Home Parks Association (BH&HPA). Follow the link from the non-members section of the BH&HPA Web site(http://www.bhhpa.org.uk/non-members.asp). Collect a list of reasons why a park operator might want to join this group. Task 4Conference venues provide facilities and services for private and public sector companies and groups. The Harrogate International Centre(http://www.harrogateinternationalcentre.co.uk) is one of the UK's most successful centres. Visit their Web site and follow the links to 'Events' to find out which organisations will be basing their conference at this venue in November 2004. Task 5One consumer-oriented part of the market that you may not have encountered before is English language teaching. According to the Association of Recognised English Language Services (AREL) more than 750 000 overseas students come to the UK every year in order to learn English. These students stay for an average 42 days and spend approximately £1300 each. Work out how much this is worth to the UK economy! Task 6
Pick a major UK town or city. Investigate the travel and tourism products and services offered by the following operators, public sector organisations and industry groups:
Design a poster or leaflet to reflect the 'place marketing' effort that takes place in the town or city. Write a list of the key products and services that you would choose to promote in the poster and leaflet. Describing the island as 'the perfect holiday centre', the publishers hoped to increase visitor numbers by advertising at the Empire Exhibition in Glasgow. Copyright: SCRAN |
