Marketing in the Travel and Tourism Industry 2 - Lesson Plan
This resource is designed specifically for Unit 3 of the Edexcel BTEC National qualification, 'Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services', although it will be of relevance to centres following other awarding bodies' programmes.
Introduction:
This lesson is the second resource on marketing in travel and tourism. It uses a case study of leisure resort La Manga to analyse the brand appeal of the destination. La Manga's offer to the professional sports sector is seen in light of a small selection of sports training facilities in other countries.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Understand some background to the La Manga leisure resort
- Assess the strengths and weaknesses of this and three other sports training providers
- Analyse the impact on La Manga's brand of offering 'bootcamp' holidays at the resort
- Understand more about how the credit crunch is affecting the industry
- Analyse how Edinburgh is trying to attract sports business in the run-up to some major sporting events
