The Marketing Mix in Travel and Tourism 2 - Lesson Plan

This resource is designed specifically for Unit 3 of the Edexcel BTEC National qualification, 'Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services', although it will be of relevance to centres following other awarding bodies' programmes.

Aim:

To continue work on Unit 3, looking at elements of the marketing mix applied to a travel and tourism facility involved in special interest tourism. This is the second in a two-part series of lessons based on a case study of the Anantara Resort and Spa Elephant Camp, in northern Thailand.

Learning Objectives:

By participating in this session, students will:

  • Reinforce their understanding of the marketing mix
  • Give examples of the marketing mix elements that apply to the facility
  • Be encouraged to analyse the facility's use of the Web
  • Analyse the facility's use of place and promotion in its marketing mix
  • Decide which channel to use to distribute the promotional leaflet designed in the previous session
