Practical Marketing Skills in Travel and Tourism 2 - Lesson Plan

This resource is designed specifically for Unit 3 of the Edexcel BTEC National qualification, 'Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services', although it will be of relevance to centres following other awarding bodies' programmes.

Aim:

To complete Unit 3 on practical marketing skills by covering the theme of promotional activity. This is the second of two sessions on this theme. In this session we will be covering the following aspects of promotional activity:

  • Advertising
  • Press releases
  • Brochures
  • Leaflets
  • Stands and displays
  • Use of technology

Learning Objectives:

By participating in this session, students will be able to:

  • Re-visit earlier lessons on this theme that focused on promotional methods
  • Identify the main methods of promoting a tourism event
  • Investigate the promotional activities associated with a major national tourism campaign
  • Create an example of promotional material to be used in a regional event as part of the national campaign
  • Analyse the methods that can be used to measure the effectiveness of promotional activity
