Special Interest Tourism 2 - Lesson Plan
Introduction
This lesson is the second and final part of our investigation into the location of special interest tourism and the nature of the activities involved. This lesson and the accompanying activity are likely to take up at least two hours work. It might be advisable to span this session over two meetings, given the density of some of the additional materials students could investigate.
Learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- Understand the breadth of special interest tourism products
- Complete their study into the spectrum of 'dark tourism' activities and products
- Analyse the growth in interest in tourism to the region affected by the Chernobyl meltdown.
- Highlight the additional sources of information in the Activity
- Prepare for a group debate into the rights and wrongs of tourism to this region.
- Understand the impact that a Web-based travelogue can have on awareness of the issues raised by the Chernobyl disaster
- Evaluate the pros and cons of future investment into different sources of energy
