Recruitment and Selection in Travel and Tourism - Lesson Plan
This resource is designed specifically for Unit 6 of the Edexcel BTEC National qualification 'Working in the Travel and Tourism Industry', although it will be of relevance to centres following other awarding bodies' programmes
Aim
To continue work begun last session on Unit 6 'Working in Travel and Tourism'. In particular, students should continue their work on their two selected jobs in the industry. They should narrow down this choice and track how someone is selected and appointed to the job. As in the previous session, it aims to encourage learners to assess their own development needs and map these to specific career paths in travel and tourism.
Learning objectives
By participating in this session, students should be able to:
- Learn the stages involved in recruitment and selection
- Apply this understanding to their chosen job
- Create a flowchart of the stages involved in appointing someone into the job
- Write supporting documentation (job description and person specification) for the chosen job
- Analyse their own strengths and weaknesses and their own suitability for the chosen job
- Earn higher grades for developing an action plan for getting the job they want in the travel and tourism industry
