Domino Activity - Guide for Teachers

Biz/ed is grateful to Keith Hirst, Head of the Humanities Faculty at Wickersley School in Rotherham, South Yorkshire for allowing us to use these activities.

Purpose:

This is an activity that is designed to be used in a variety of ways. It can be used as a starter for lessons or as a final activity to check on levels of understanding and the learning that might have gone on in previous lessons.

It is also useful as a means of reinforcing the revision programme that students may be following and for going back over the learning of key terms in business and business and economics courses

How to Play the Game

Print out and cut out the 'dominos' - it is advised that each 'domino' is stuck onto card and laminated so that they can be used again. Each student in the class is given one of the dominos. One student will then stand up and read out the question on his or her domino. The person who thinks they have got the correct answer to the question then stands up and provides the answer. If it is correct then that student will read out their question and so on.

As an alternative, the game could be played with small groups of three or four students. One student places down a domino dealt after shuffling the dominos onto a table. The student who is next to go can go if they have the correct answer. If they have the correct answer they place the domino answer next to the relevant question and the next student has to see if they have the correct answer to the next question in their hand. If not, it passes to the next student and so on. The dominos should be arrabged to form a square, 5 cards by 5 cards. The 'winner' is the student who gets rid of all their dominos first. The game can be continued until the square is complete.
