Basic Concepts Department

Introduction

It is your first day at work in the Biz/ed Investment Bank Ltd. You are excited about the prospect, but at the same time very nervous about what awaits you. When you arrive at the office you meet Bob, assistant in the Human Resources Department. He seems very friendly and invites you on a tour of the different departments in the building. As you are walking through the different areas, you hear the daily cries of the staff at work in the office.

As you look around at the busy environment, you start feel more and more nervous. You realise that you don't understand ANYTHING AT ALL! This is going to be harder than you thought. Your stomach starts to churn.

When you have finished the visit, Bob notices your anxiety.

Introducing Bob

This is Bob - he will be guiding you through your training throughout your stay in the Basic Concepts Department. You will see his image every time he talks to you - take careful note of what he has to say to you!

'You thought your degree in economics and business finance would mean that you were going to know everything when coming here, didn't you?' he chuckles. 'Everybody thinks the same when arriving and everybody soon realises that their education has only just begun! You will have to study and learn a lot of things if you want to be a fixed income expert. But don't worry, that's what we are here for. Pay attention to everything you are told and you never know where you might end up!'

Travelling home at the end of the first day, you reflect on everything you have seen and heard during the day. It's exciting and daunting, but you are determined to learn as much as possible and become an expert in the fixed income market.

Do you want to accept the challenge?
