Functional Areas of a Business - Examples of Two Different Businesses

Task 2

Go to Biz/ed's Business Profiles section. There are a number of different types of businesses in this section with details about how they operate.(http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/business_profiles.htm)

We are going to look at two different businesses:

Look through the question and answer sections of each and try and do the following tasks:

  1. Briefly explain the difference between the ownership of the two businesses.
  2. Identify two things in each functional area that will have to be carried out in each business. (For example both businesses will have to employ staff to carry out the work.)
  3. Explain the difference in the way in which the two businesses might organise how the different functions are carried out. (Hint: think of the difference in the size of the two businesses.)
  4. What problems do you think Jilly's business might face in managing all these different functions compared to that of Kettleby Foods?
