Introduction to Business Activity - Using your InformationSt Michael's College had been part of a school sixth form but the school had moved to a new building and the local authority had reorganised schooling in the area. Now pupils aged 11-16 went to the new school and St Michael's became the further education college for the area taking in students not only from the new school but other schools in the region.

Copyright: Zhe Zhang, stock.xchng The local authority didn't provide the funding for St Michael's anymore - they got their money from a body called the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). One of the other main changes to affect students at St Michael's was the re-organisation of the college canteen. Previously it had been run by the local authority but now it was run by a company called Canteeneat Ltd. They spent a lot of money doing it up and it looks great - the food is really good but it is not as cheap as it used to be. They must be doing okay because both staff and students now eat there. TaskDescribe the type of business activity that is going on in the passage. Explain what sectors you think the business/es in the passage belong to and what changes there might be in the types of sector as a result of the re-organisation. Why do you think the local authority might have reorganised the educational provision in the way described? |
