Rights and Responsibilities

Before we look at the stakeholder model in more detail, let us look at what we mean by rights and responsibilities.

Rights - what an individual or a group of individuals might reasonably expect to get from a business. (Note the term 'reasonably').

Responsibilities - The obligations that a business has to different groups or individuals who come into contact with the business. What a business would be reasonably expected to provide to these groups or individuals.

The activity below has a list of the range of stakeholders and the various rights and responsibilities that are associated with those stakeholders. The first task is to put the stakeholders in the box on the left and the rights and responsibilities in the box on the right. Select the 'Mark' button to check that you have got these correct.

When you have done this, look through your list and try and think about which of the rights and responsibilities matches with the appropriate stakeholder. Some of the rights and responsibilities could match with more than one stakeholder. Discuss your thinking with a partner and explain why you have decided on the match.

To perform the drag and drop exercise using the keyboard tab to the list of items. Use l and r to move the items to the left and right containers respectively and tab to move to the next item. To mark the exercise press the return key and to reset the resource use the delete key.
