Final Task
|
We have looked at four very influential theories on motivation at work. They are not meant to be the only explanations for motivation, but each may put a slightly different slant on an explanation of human behaviour.
- Look again at the work of the four theorists.
-
To what extent is there a connection between them all? (Hint: some of Herzberg's motivation factors are closely linked to aspects of Maslow's hierarchy - but which ones?)
- Look at this Problem Based Learning activity on Biz/ed. It includes a reference to something called the 'Happiness at Work Index'.
- Look at the ten 'Happy factors' and the ten 'Unhappy factors'. See if you can match them to the relevant sections to Herzberg's hygiene factors and motivation factors.
Are you happy in your work? What can an organisation do to make you 'happy' and how does it relate to motivation theory? Copyright: Michal Krzymin, from stock.xchng.
- Write a short 500-word report or prepare a presentation to give to the senior management at your school or college about how you would improve motivation of the staff in your institution!
