Accounting and Finance - Audit

One of the key topics in any study of accounting and finance is that of audit. This subject has traditionally been about external review of financial information such as Annual Reports and Accounts and internal review of management information flows. However, the role and importance of audit is currently undergoing a revolution. The traditional split between external and internal audit is becoming greyed as technology brings together what were traditionally very separate accounting functions. The audit role is also being expanded into other attestation and assurance services, in areas such as e-commerce verification.

AuditNet

AuditNet started as an online list of resources kept by its originator, James Kaplan, that would be emailed free to anyone interested in the subject. The concept behind the list was to link auditors around the world in a way that would create a community amongst people who were facing very similar problems wherever they were performing their audit jobs. It is by far the best resource on auditing issues on the Web at present, although it does tend towards a US perspective on audit subjects.

The Web site now contains a huge variety of resources including the original (and still regularly updated) list, KARL, which contains more than 300 audit-related entries, an auditing glossary and the auditors' subject section.
