Human Resource Management - Organisational Culture and Change

Business Open Learning Archive (BOLA)

This is one of the few UK sites targeted to the needs of postgraduate and undergraduate students of business. It deals with aspects of strategy, organisational structure and culture. It is a well organised site.

NOTE: This site is hosted by Chris Jarvis, lecturer in Human Resource Management at Brunel University, London. This site changes frequently and warrants return visits.

  • Choose the Organisational Structure/Culture option
  • Select the What is Organisational Culture Anyway? option
  • Read through this page to familiarise yourself with the concepts

There are also links to theoretical models of different views of organisational structure and culture. Usefully, Chris Jarvis has summarised the models and provides his own views.

Further References

For information about the theories associated with cultural change, students might like to look at the work of Charles Handy, Henry Mintzberg and Douglas McGregor, all of whom are referenced on the BOLA Web site (above) and can be found in your institution's library catalogue.
