Internet Learning Materials for MBA StudentsFunded by the Foundation for Management Education Notes for UsersThis project aims to produce, in a coherent and easily accessible form, a guide to high quality Internet materials and sites that can be used by both students and staff to support MBA studies. It is also intended to introduce a group of experienced and enthusiastic staff, who have used Internet materials in their teaching, to other MBA tutors and their students. One of the essential qualities of the Internet is that it proliferates. Every minute of every day new material joins the mass already available. We hope that this project will help guide staff and students through this unstructured mass in ways which are helpful to novice users and thereby increase the variety of ways in which MBA students make use of this powerful tool in their studies. How are the Materials Organised? The materials are grouped under six main subject headings/chapters, each of which forms a component of most MBA programmes. Each chapter has been assembled by one or more specialists who introduce their area by explaining why they think the Web should be used to support their subject. Within each chapter there are between nine and thirteen broadly related sections or sub-themes. Each section makes reference to at least one principal site, regarded by the author as containing useful resources for studying that subject. The sections also contain hints on using the sites and, in most cases, further references. Who Should Use These Materials?Although students and staff on MBA programmes have been identified as the primary audience, we hope and expect that these materials will also be useful to those studying for a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate business degrees and professional qualifications. What Should I Do With These Materials?Every Business School in the UK will be sent one copy of a double-sided, 'reference' version, and one copy of a single-sided, "photo-copyable" version of this booklet. In addition each library will be sent a copy. We suggest that the photo-copyable version is passed on to the MBA Award Leader, who may decide to produce a hard copy for each student and staff member and/or to alert them to the Web document at http://www.bized.co.uk/fme/. Wider dissemination or copying by staff and students on other courses is also permitted. We encourage you to publicise and use this resource as widely as possible. How Should I Use These Materials in My Teaching or Study? There are many different ways in which these materials can be used. Each chapter begins with a short explanation, by its author, outlining his ideas and suggestions. We hope that the sites identified will provide, inter alia, access to current statistics and data, case-study examples of current 'real-world' applications, supplementary course materials, information on the latest thinking in the subject, and opportunities to practise techniques learnt in the classroom. The links to further references allow students to explore the subject further. These may take you deeper into the received wisdom of your chosen subject or to the 'outer edges' where people are busy creating new theory. We hope that you will, whether teacher or student, use these materials to explore what is available to help you become more knowledgeable, more skilled, more flexible and more outward looking.
