The purpose of this page is to highlight the key features of Biz/ed and where on the site you can find the materials you need.

Current Topics

This is a magazine style section with regular features on topical issues with an explanation of the associated theory in our Mind your Business and At your Leisure series, plus daily economics and business news in In The News. The features include links to additional material and ideas for further study.

Learning Materials

The resources available in the learning materials section of Biz/ed provide a range of primary materials to help educators and students of Business Studies, Economics, Accounting, Leisure, Sport and Recreation and Travel and Tourism. It also includes resources for International Baccalaureate, Nuffield Economics & Business and Scotland.

Data

In this section of Biz/ed you will find data provided by the Office for National Statistics and Penn World and also the TimeWeb and Key Economic Data resources. TimeWeb has learning materials that are split into three parts to reflect the different skills involved in handling time series data.

Company Information

Biz/ed have created business profiles for a range of organisations which are presented as sets of FAQs. There are also links to Case Studies created for the Times 100, a database of company financial data and ratio analysis theory and practice.

Virtual Worlds

This section contains the Virtual Economy, an online model based on the HM Treasury model of the economy, the Virtual Bank of Biz/ed, which looks at the role of banks and central banks, the Virtual Developing Country, a case study centred around Zambia, the Virtual Factory, which provides an opportunity to apply business studies theory to a real world business situation, and the Virtual Learning Arcade, a series of economics and business simulations on various topics.

Reference

This section contains supporting guides and resources including the glossary, diagram bank, acronym finder, study skills, journals database and Internet Resources catalogue. Most of these resources can be searched or browsed to find precisely what you need.

Educators

This area of the site is specially designed to help support teachers and lecturers in schools, colleges and higher education. It includes lesson plans, activities and presentations for A2, AS, BTEC and Level 2 which are updated on a weekly basis during UK term time.
