Standards compliance
As far as possible, we have tried to ensure that:
- All pages on this site should be at least Bobby AA approved, complying with all priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- All pages on this site should validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
- All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. h1 tags are used for main titles, h2 tags for subtitles (and so on).
Images
- All content images used in this site should include descriptive alt tags. Purely decorative graphics
include null alt tags.
- Complex images may include longdesc tags or inline
descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.
Macromedia Flash
Biz/ed uses Macromedia Flash for some interactive resources. Consequently you must have Macromedia Flash Player 6 (or higher) installed - this can be obtained from the Macromedia Web site. Biz/ed resources require Flash Player 6 as older versions of the player do not support a sufficient range of accessibility features. The interactive Macromedia Flash resources developed by Biz/ed are designed to work both with and without the use of a mouse and be compatible with as many assistive technologies as possible. Where Flash resources are used instruction on their use are also provided, in addition the Flash files contain information accessible by screen readers which further outline features implemented within the files that allow them to be used in conjunction with assistive technologies.
In addition, if you cannot view the interactive resources for whatever reason a static annotated image will appear instead, if you cannot view the static image it will be replaced by some descriptive text instead.
Visual design
- This site uses primarily uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
- This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. If you need to change the "text size" in your Web browser instructions are available.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page should still be readable.
