  • The site is extraordinarily successful. The latest statistics (number of page impressions, one for each time a web page is visited) show that the site traffic continues to grow significantly:

  • QCA Survey: 61% of 500 schools stated Biz/ed #1 business education site
  • Visit frequency: 51% of current users visit the site at least once every week; 7% visit every day
  • 61% of users increase their use of the Web site since their initial visit
  • Partnerships drive strong, targeted traffic to the site. These include: The Times 100, and BDO Stoy Hayward and Institute of Fiscal Studies, as well as daily updated content and topical resources
  • A current newsletter database of 3,200 primarily to UK education professionals
  • A current Podcast/MP3 download service is available, with approximately 3,000 downloads per month
  • Streaming video resources are also provided throughout the site
  • An ongoing marketing strategy is in place to ensure volume and quality of traffic

Target Markets

The two target markets are the teaching of academic and vocational qualifications for 14-19 year olds, and undergraduate courses. There is also a considerable level of MBA-level interest in the site, as the diagram below illustrates.

This newsletter customer profile shows that Biz/ed has a higher incidence of users at UG and MBA level than previously thought

  • The market at AS/A2:
    • In 2004, 32,255 students took an A' level in business studies and 17,762 took economics A' level. 40% of visitors to the site are studying or teaching AS or A2 business or economics courses.
  • The market at S level:
    • 40,823 students took business studies while 21,071 took economics, according to the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ)
  • The market at GCSE:
    • 94,316 took business studies, 3,694 took economics and a further 17,340 took the applied business course
  • As well as the 5,000 schools that make up the potential market outlined above, there are 406 FE colleges in the UK as well as a growing international market.
  • The 2004 survey of Biz/ed users revealed that 20% were from higher education.
  • 34% of those studying or teaching management were from higher education, as were 23% of those studying or teaching accounting.
  • The market for Biz/ed in higher education grows annually, from 227,000 students studying business in 2000 to over 300,000 in 2004.
  • Business related modules are taken by 75% of students at university. In terms of economics and business departments in higher education, there are 96 economics units, and up to 120 business studies units (including those offering accountancy, etc.)
