 | Type of Visitor Attraction |
The UK visitor attractions sector is made up of a wide variety of facilities. It is important that you are aware of the different types of attractions found in the UK and what they offer to local people and tourists.
Visitor attractions can be classified as follows:
- Natural attractions (e.g. mountains, forests, coastline, lakes/waterways, landscape features)
- Built attractions (e.g. theme parks, museums, heritage centres, sports facilities, family entertainment centres, cinemas, cultural attractions, animal parks, historic sites, shopping centres)
You should be able to identify examples of each of these types of attractions found in the UK. You must also understand that different types of attractions appeal to different types of visitors. For example, a young couple, families, and the elderly will all have different needs and requirements.
Newquay has become a major centre for surfing in the last 20 years. Its popularity stems from its location, which provides regular quality surf, and the many support facilities associated with this type of activity that have located in and around the area, such as restaurants, clubs, pubs and accommodation.
