IT Skills
One of the key skills is the use of Information Technology. IT skills are considered integral to the study of Business Studies and Economics.
Information Technology
When preparing information, students should:
- explain their reasons for using IT
- prepare software facilities and create automated routines to aid repetitive processing of information
- select, enter and edit information so that it is accurate and ready for processing
- save information appropriately
When processing information, students should:
- find information as required
- reformat and generate information, using appropriate routines
- combine different types of information from various sources
- use safe and sound working practices when using IT
When presenting and reviewing the use of IT, students should:
- select appropriate ways of presenting information to meet requirements
- describe problems, issues and their potential effects when using IT
- compare methods and facilities for using information
- judge the effectiveness of using IT to meet their purpose, and alternative ways of doing this
IT skills required
- Word Processing e.g. Word
- Spreadsheets e.g. Excel
- Databases
- Use of interactive CDs and Business/Economic simulations
- Use of the Internet for research
Task
Using appropriate computer based research (e.g. Internet/library database), produce a word processed report on 'The UK Housing Industry'. You may take any angle you wish but your report should contain numerical and graphical presentation of data as well as text. You may wish to consider the following:
- Changes in housing stock
- Levels of income and distribution
- Regional factors such as unemployment
- Supply of labour to the industry
- The future? (use suitable forecasting techniques)
