BuffingBUFFING: INTRODUCTION

The last part of looking at what you do with data is called 'Buffing'. It refers to the 'finishing' processes that you should follow when dealing with data. Here we are concerned with:

  • Picturing - using charts and diagrams
  • Describing - how you refer to the data you've used
  • Lie Detecting - how to spot and avoid instances of distortion
  • Evaluating - assessing the value of data by seeing the 'big picture' underneath

The best way to navigate around the section is to use the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the page. Each of the above themes has a variety of resources to help you understand the issues. The resources include:

  • Explanation - a brief explanation of the issues relating to that theme
  • Illustration - some examples of using the techniques covered under the theme
  • Worksheets - a series of interactive worksheets looking at how the techniques can be applied in practice
  • Review - a brief summary of the issues covered under the theme

The best way to start off using this section may be to have a look at the tour for 'buffing' which gives an overview of the resources available and what they cover.
