A Day in the Life of....... The Marketing Manager

As the Marketing Manager of a small firm I get to do a far greater variety of tasks than my counterparts in their multinational companies. Basically I am the spokesperson for Cameron Balloons and try to ensure that people get to hear about what we are doing and what we provide. This morning I am off to BBC Radio Bristol to discuss the attempt on the World Altitude Record - we made the balloon to get the Sky-Diver high enough! I get to work with all media: TV, radio, newspapers and now Web sites, each of which wants something new and different. Today I am finishing a press story for a ballooning magazine about how we helped in the attempt to get the most balloons in the air at one time and in one place. It is important that I stay up-to-date with factory developments, there is nothing worse than an expert who does not know what is going on!

The busiest time of year for me is before the big balloon meetings as these are local, national and international showcases for Cameron Balloons. We have an opportunity to display our products, meet customers new and old, and generally project our profile as the leading balloon manufacturer in Europe. I must ensure that displays, product materials and literature are available for anyone who requires them. Most importantly we present ourselves for help and assistance at the festivals and also to discuss balloons with our customers - a combination of public relations-meets-repair workshop. The afternoon is filled with telephone calls to the printers to ensure that the new brochures are correct and will be ready in time.

Tomorrow I am showing a local school around the factory and then meeting with a potential customer (a new Internet company) to discuss the sort of balloon they want - variety is, after all, the spice of life.
